3. Hamzah in the Middle of a Word

In non-Quranic Script, the hamzah is written on an alif in the middle of a word if it has a
fathah and the letter before it has a sukoon, or if it has a sukoon and the letter before
it has a fathah, as shown in the top 2 pictures in the table below:

The hamzah is written without an alif on the bottom of the line if the letter before it is a
letter of stretching (bottom 2 pictures in the above table).

4. Hamzah at the End of a Word

At the end of a word the way the hamzah is written depends on the sign of the letter before it: if it has a kasrah then the hamzah is
written on a ya; if it has a fathah it is written on an alif; if it has a dhammah then it is written on a wow.

In both examples on the left, the hamzah is written on a ya because

the sign on the letter before it is a kasrah.

In both examples on the left, the hamzah is written on an alif because

the sign on the letter before it is a fathah.

In both examples on the left, the hamzah is written on a wow because

the sign on the letter before it is a dhammah.

In both examples on the left, the hamzah is written on its own because

the letter before it is a letter of stretching and has a sukoon.
