1. Types of Stretching

1. The Compulsory Joined Stretch

When there is a letter of stretching (alif, wow or ya) followed by the letter hamzah in the same
word, we stretch for either 4 or 5 counts, as in the examples below.

2. The Optional Separated Stretch

When there is a letter of stretching (alif, wow or ya) followed by the letter hamzah in two
different words, we have the option to stretch for either 2, 4 o r 5 counts.
Note: When you click the first 4 boxes, wait a few seconds until it is read in both ways before clicking the next.

3. The Small Ya and Small Wow Stretches (Each type has a long and short)

If the small wow or small ya is followed by a hamzah, we stretch for 2, 4 or 5 counts (see 2nd and 4th
examples), otherwise we stretch for only 2 counts (1st and 3rd examples).

4. The Other-way-Round Stretch and the Fathah Tanween Stretch

'Other-way-Round' as in the hamzah comes before the letter of stretching (alif, wow or ya).
The 'Fathah Tanween Stretch' is when a word ends in a fathah tanween, we stretch for 2 counts when
stopping on that word, whether there is an alif after the tanween or not.
Note: When you click the last 2 boxes, wait a few seconds until it is read in both ways before clicking the next box or next page.
